Peter Mutharika ‘playing double standards’ -PP

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Professor Peter Mutharika has been criticised “playing double standards” for his statement   that the country should focus on fixing the current economic crises than politicking.

An organ of the People’s Party – Orange Partners – said Mutharika who is ruling DPP presidential candidate in 2014 “is being insincere with himself.”

In a statement made available to Nyasa Times, National Network Coordinator of the Orange Partners said the president’s brother remarks were “misleading” and also “deceiving.”

Peter Mutharika: Double standards

The PP organ said “everybody in the country who has sound memory is aware that the source of the present crises is a result of the stinking arrogance of the DPP led government when it refused to listen to numerous advices by Malawians to stop the early political campaign for Prof. Peter Mutharika.”

The  Orange partners said they are “surprised to hear Peter Mutharika confessing that 2014 when the country is due to hold general elections is still far for people to engage in campaigning. “

DPP officials launched an untimely campaign for 2014 by endorsing Peter Mutharika as early as June 2009.

“Malawi  is in current state at this time because those people that spoke out or tried to advise the government and refused to be part of that cheap politicking became victims and were consequently sidelined, fired or dismissed by the ruling DPP,” said Chikwemba who was constructively expelled from DPP for opposing Peter Mutharika’s early ascendancy to power.

He said Peter Mutharika repeatedly denied that he harbours any presidential ambitions and he has even further advised the press to stop interviewing him on the same “yet now it is visible that he is very much interested and is even acting as if he is already the head of state.”

Dialogue

The Orange Partners pointed out that Peter Mutharika is being given red carpet treatment because he is even using government helicopters and enjoying other perks.

Chikwemba: Peter Mutharika deceiving

The PP said “If Peter Mutharika wants Malawians to take him serious, he should first demonstrate his seriousness and willingness to pose as the architect of peace and reconciliation by initiating serious talks and engage in diplomatic discussions (with all interested stakeholders including the Vice-President Right Hon. Joyce Banda) concerning the future of Malawi rather than pretending to seek popular consent by making cheap political innuendos.”

People’s Party is led by Vice President Banda who was expelled in DPP for opposing the endorsement of Peter Mutharika to inherit power from his brother incumbent Bingu wa Mutharika.
