Petroleum Importers Limited donates K5 million medical items to Thyolo Hospital

Malawi’s major fuel importer,Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has reaffirmed its commitment in supporting government in the provision of quality health services in the country.

Good gesture: Kadango handsover the donation

PIL General Manager Enwell Kadango made the commitment after the company made a donation of medical items to Thyolo District Hospital worth K5 million as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Kadango said PIL in its CSR has collaborated with Ministry of Health such that few health institutions will benefit from such donations.

“We believe we share some of the vision with the health sector to ensure development progresses through fuel availability and a healthy nation through good health delivery systems. It is the same people we serve that patronize our hospitals for various ailments,” said Kadango.

He expressed optimism that the people and hospital staff will make good use of the items for quality service delivery at the institution.

“We do recognize this noble task which requires a lot of dedication on the part of the staff at this Hospital. As PIL, we thought it is worthwhile to donate to Thyolo District Hospital and to this hard working team ,we believe together we can change the status of our public hospitals in the country,” he said.

Receiving the items, District Nursing Officer Felina Khonje hailed PIL for the donation saying it will go a long way in serving the lives of people in Thyolo and the surroundings areas.

“This donation has eased some of challenges that the hospital continue to experience. Initially four wards were sharing one oxygen concentrator and when there is a patient who needs the machine nurses were forced to move it from one ward to another,” said Khonje.

She said the unique thing about PIL is that before making the donation the consulted the hospital to provide their priority areas.

“The good thing with this donation is that before coming with the items they asked us our priority areas and we told them what we are looking for and this is exactly that they brought us ,” she said

The donated items include 50 BP machines,50 sterilising indicator tapes,2 oxygen concentrators, 13 Theatre scrub suits , 105 green drill sheet and 20 litres buckets.

Thyolo District Hospital serves a population of 660 thousand people.
