Officials from the council were forced to stay in their homes as the angry direct workers for the council caused commotion.

Apart from the salaries, the council workers are also demanding leave grants which they had not been receiving since 2012.

Director of Finance at the council Kandiado claimed the council had given the workers their two month pay on Friday.

He said the council is yet to source funds for the leave grants.
