Phalombe pupil sexually abused for ‘bread and sugarcane’

A 35-years-old man is in police custody for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old school girl in Phalombe district.

John Msangwe a guard at Thuchila Estate is said to have sexually assaulted the girl on Thursday morning after he promised to buy her bread and sugarcane.

”The girl was sent back from school for being late and on her way home she met the suspect who told her to follow him so he could buy her bread and sugarcane,” National police publicist, Rhoda Manjolo told Nyasa Times.

Msangwe instead took the girl to a nearby pigeon peas garden where he sexually assaulted her.

”He threatened her not to shout or reveal the incident to anyone. The suspect ran away after committing the offence. The girl revealed the issue to well-wishers who found her crying,” explained Manjolo.

Medical report confirmed the girl was indeed defiled and the law enforcers managed to apprehend the suspect.

Msangwe will be charged with Defilement under Section 138 (1) of the Penal Code.

Msangwe hails from Chitimbe village, T/A Nkanda in Mulanje district.
