Pharmanova promotes ‘best buy Malawi’ drugs
Pharmanova Malawi Limited (PLM) which received Best Manufacturers Award at the 27th Malawi International Trade Fair, last year on Friday showcased their products during the launch of the Buy Malawi Strategy which encourages Malawian citizens to support the local industries by buying locally produce goods and services.
PLM managing director Yusuf Patel underscored President Peter Mutharika touting of Buy Malawi Strategy as a platform through which the country would improve its investment opportunities, change business strategies, create jobs and facilitate increase exportation of goods.
President Mutharika said the strategy aims to stimulate local production, promote the spirit of industrialization, create competitiveness and create more jobs that will in-return create wealth for the country.
“And, through the strategy, we expect to improve our foreign exchange base as importation of goods is expected to drop down,” the President said.
To show seriousness and commitment, the President said the government of Malawi will accelerate public sector reforms as well as business reforms and create a more conducive business environment.
The President who has also been branded the champion of the Buy Malawi Strategy has directed that all public procuring entities must buy at least 30 percent of goods and services from Malawi base enterprises.
Pharmanova which was also awarded a Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) certificate by the Pharmacy, Medicines and Poisons Board and also certified by the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) for manufacturing cosmetics and a range of baby care products is one of the largest medicine manufacturing companies in Malawi and also one of the biggest suppliers of off the counter (OTC) products.
Among the list of products produced by Pharmanova are OCT medicines such as Panado, Cafemol, Novasprin, Hedax, Novafen, Novidar SP, Drews Liver Salt, Phipps Milk of Magnesia, Phipps Gripe Water and Stearns Cough Remedies.
The company also produces prescription medicines such as Novabarbitobe, Novazole, Novidar, Novamphenicol, Supadoxene, Novamox, Novatris and Novaphyline. Its skin care cosmetic creams include Hinds Pink Cream, Camphor Cream and Novaseline.
Baby care products by Pharmanova are baby bath, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby lotion and baby oil.
