Pharmanova workers divided over strike
Workers at Pharmanova Malawi Limited (PLM) are divided over the strike which was started on Thursday.
While the workers union distanced itself from the strike, the company management described the strike as illegal, saying the workers did not follow due process before the puttings tools down.
The workers were demanding better working conditions.
But management said they are always keen to discuss with workers union on labour matters, saying the company’s success depends on dedicated staff at different levels of production and massive investment to superb machinery and infrastructure which has made Pharmanova a local household name.
“I think we rushed to down tools. Some of us were just excited to strike,” said on of the workers at Ginnery Corner.
Pharmanova says it is committed to serve its staff well so they can work diligently.
The company offer productivity lint incentives, annual performance bonuses and a good canteen to supplement their diets with breakfast, tea breaks and lunches as well as medical cover.
PLM is one of the largest medicine manufacturing companies in Malawi and also one of the biggest suppliers of off the counter (OTC) products

Among the list of products produced by Pharmanova are OCT medicines such as Panado, Cafemol, Novasprin, Hedax, Novafen, Novidar SP, Drews Liver Salt, Phipps Milk of Magnesia, Phipps Gripe Water and Stearns Cough Remedies.
The company also produces prescription medicines such as Novabarbitobe, Novazole, Novidar, Novamphenicol, Supadoxene, Novamox, Novatris and Novaphyline. Its skin care cosmetic creams include Hinds Pink Cream, Camphor Cream and Novaseline.
Baby care products by Pharmanova are baby bath, baby shampoo, baby powder, baby lotion and baby oil.

It’s very sad that the employees take the route of illegal strike instead of following the correct channel, Pharmanova is definitely one of the best co which looks after the interest of the Employees , it looks like some few have forced the majority to go into strikes .
