Phoya, Atupele hold ‘special talks’ at Mwaiwathu

Member of Parliament for Blantyre Rural East, Henry Duncan Phoya (HDP) on Monday on Monday visited Machinga North East MP Atupele Muluzi currently admitted at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre and held “special talks”.

Sources at the hospital told Nyasa Times that as soon as HDP walked into Atupele’s room, the young Muluzi politely asked other people who were there to leave so that he could speak to Phoya in private.

The two of them spent over half an hour in the ward where Atupele is admitted to receiving treatment for malaria after his arrest last week.

Phoya and Atupele: Shared notes

After their talks, Phoya left the hospital greeting some of the people who were in the corridors waiting for their turn to see the son for the former p[resident Bakili Muluzi.

The two lawmakers, who are all regarded as potential leaders, were tight lipped on what they discussed.

Phoya briefly said he had “shared notes” with a fellow parliamentarian.

The former Justice Minister  Phoya said he was “encouraged” by the progress of Atupele after he had been moved from the Intensive Care Unit to a general ward at the private hospital.

Atupele, 33, is among a new generation of politicians and has a large following, especially among the youth who make up over 60 percent of the population.

On the other hand Phoya is regarded as an ethical politican with experience in government and without a tainted past.
