Platinum coach wary of Ng’ambi’s departure
Platinum Stars coach Allan Freese is worried with the prospect of losing Malawian star midfielder, Robert Ng’ambi, during the January transfer window.
Ng’ambi, who scored in the Stars’ 2-0 triumph over Ajax Cape Town last Saturday, is strongly linked to move to big-spending Mamelodi Sundowns, according to soccer magazine Kickoff.
When asked if he thinks Ng’ambi will stay with the club, Freese says: “I don’t know, and I’m very worried – where will I get another Ng’ambi now?
“We [Platinum Stars management] have spoken a little about what players to look at in the new season but I’m saying I hope nobody comes,” Kickoff quotes Freese.
The coach believes that if the soft-spoken former Bullets and MDC United player leave it will upset the balance of the team and the understanding between the players which he says has brought them success so far.
Ng’ambi joined Platinum Stars from Black Leopards, who signed him from Bullets in 2005, at the beginning of the 2012/13 season and was in fact linked to Sundowns back in 2011.
He has had an outstanding year for the North West side scoring many vital goals.
The versatile Flames’ midfielder played an instrumental role as the team finished second on the log table last season and in their MTN8 and Telkom Knockout successes this season.
The 27-year-old’s contract with the Dikwena expires at the end of the 2014/15 season with an option to renew it for another year.
