Police arrest 4 suspect students over Thyolo secondary school violence
Malawi Police in Thyolo have arrested four students suspected to be ring leaders in a fracas at Thyolo Secondary School on Wednesday night which led to destruction of school property.
Thyolo police spokesperson said the four are yet to be charged with an offence.
Meanwhile, classes at the school have been suspended indefinitely after the setting ablaze of the school structures and destruction of property.
Ministry of Education spokesperson Lindiwe Chide said the suspension is to pave way for investigations on the violence.
The administration block, hostels and two teachers’ houses were torched by the angry students who accuse the school management of illegally enrolling students from other districts at the school.
I attended this school from 1994 to 1997 when the headmasters of the time, Mr F Nseula, Mr Yonasi did their best. As students, we guarded the school at all cost, any student who wanted to damage the school was dealt with by the students themselves, the head boys of the time, Samuel Salimu and Oliver Mkwapatira and other prefects like Thangateni Khobwe, Reuben Khamisa, Luke Nazombe, Exeter Chalomwe and the Prefect council advisor, Misheck Kamwamba, worked hand in hand to bring order at the school. Any student who was involved in this destruction should be brought to book and charged accordingly!!!Do not leave any stone unturned please. All those Lomwe students should face the arms of law!!!!

Don’t just arrest ring leaders, everyone who was involved should face the long army of the law.
