Police arrest Blantyre City Council worker for rape

Police in Blantyre have arrested an employee of Blantyre City Council for allegedly raping a student last Friday afternoon.

The suspect, a Mr. Bello, raped the form three student near Quarry Dam at Soche in Blantyre.

Police say the girl had gone to the dam to appreciate the work of nature when she met the suspect who told her that the dam was a protected area as such she was not supposed to be found there.

“The suspect then told her to leave the place and advised her to accompany him to use a short route to get out of the place for fear of being attacked and that is where he pulled her down and raped her,” said Soche Police Station where the man is being remanded.

After the incident, the girl reported the matter to her parents who were at pains on how to handle the matter after the girl said she did not know the suspect.

Fortunately, the next day, the girl met a woman who had waved at the suspect before she met her ordeal and she told her brother who in turn reported the matter to police.

“We managed to trace the accused person through this lady though at first she was uncooperative and reluctant to reveal the identity and home of the man,” he said.

The suspect, who has since been charged with, however, claims that the girl was his legitimate girlfriend and they have been meeting for several times.
