Police arrest Blantyre woman for dumping baby in latrine
A 42-year-old lady is in custody at Blantyre Police Station for dumping a newly born baby in a pit latrine.

The suspect Angella Chikwakwa of Wilson Village T/A Tomasi in Thyolo but a resident at Sumani 2 village T/A Nsomba in Blantyre committed the offence on Thursday November 2nd, 2017, police have confirmed.
“On Thursday November 2 at around 9pm, she gave birth to a baby girl and dumped it in a pit latrine within the same village,” explained August Nkhwazi Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer.
“One of the people close to the suspect’s house heard the baby crying from the pit latrine, they demolished the toilet and managed to rescue the baby.”
Matter was reported at Manase Police Unit, and police arrested the suspect.
The baby was referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where it is being taken care of.
“The baby is in good health.”
Chikwawa is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of Concealing the Birth of a Child which contravenes Section 232 of the Penal Code.
