Police arrest Malawi Postal Corp employees for K1.5m scam
Police in Machinga have arrested Ntaja Post Master, Bayosi Matumbi 50, and a 43-year-old messenger, White Makanjira for allegedly misappropriating cash amounting to over K1.5million between May and October this year as revealed by an audit report.
Police Public Relations Officer for Machinga, Martin Tione confirmed the arrest of the two Sunday explaining that an audit exercise by Mzondi Mughogho at Ntaja Post Office revealed that Matumbi and Makanjira teamed up to misappropriate the said amount.
Meanwhile, the two are in police custody waiting for trial on charges of theft by public servant which is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code, according to Tione.
Matumbi comes from Mbongolo Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi while Makanjira hails from Umbwa Village, Traditional Authority Chiwalo in Machinga.
