Police in Mzuzu have arrested two employees of the Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRFM) on allegations that they have been behind the pilferage of subsidised fertilizers from the Mzuzu depot.

Mzuzu Police Publicist Edward Longwe confirmed the development to Nyasa Times adding that they had received numerous reports of pilferage since the distribution of subsidised fertilisers started but were yet to catch the culprits.

The two men, Moses Thole, a Supervisor and Mike Kachingwe a Clerk were arrested Wednesday after truck destined for Chitipa with 600 50 Kilogrammes bags was discovered with an extra 73 bags of Urea.

The bags, which have a shop value of MK569,400, will be sent to Chitipa as soon as possible, according to Longwe.
