Police nab man for putting ‘Juju’ at court

Police in Nkhotakota district have arrested a 48 year old man after he was caught red handed in the wee hours Monday administering Juju at Nkhotakota Magistrate’s Court in a desperate bid to have his case withdrawn.

Nkhotakota Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Kaitano Lubrino identified the suspect as Baziwell Banda of Mgombe village, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in the district saying the Court’s watchmen nabbed on Monday at around 5 am.

Police arrested Banda on October 19th, 2012 for assault after he beat a follow villager accusing him that his relative was having a love affair with his wife. He was charged with Assault occasioning Actual Bodily harm which is contrary to section 254 of the Penal Code.

Banda was on Police bail pending court appearance.

Lubrino said the watchmen were surprised to see the suspect administering watery Juju whilst chanting inaudible songs.

Banda told Police in his caution statement that his parents gave him the Juju with explicit instructions to apply it at the court in the wee hours of the day his case was scheduled for Court but luck was not on his side.

Meanwhile, the suspect has been charged with the offence of criminal trespass contrary to section 314 of the Penal Code and will appear before court on Tuesday to answer both charges.
