Police nab man who chopped wife’s arm, leg
Malawi Police in the central region district of Dowa have arrested a man who chopped off his wife’s arm and leg following a domestic row.
The woman – as Tikhala Benson of Mbiya Village -was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital following loss of blood.
Mponela Police spokesperson Kondwani Kandiado confirmed the arrest47-year-old Henry Agabu Vunga of Mwamcheka Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Dzoole in Dowa.
Kandiado said the incident happened around 7pm on Tuesday.
The man is suspected to have killed the wife by completely chopping off her left arm and left leg.
“He sliced the woman’s arm and leg using a panga,” said the police spokesman.
He will face murder charges, according to police.
The two have been married since 1998.
The incident is similar to the one which occurred in 2006 in the same district where an irate husband, Herbert Mankhwala, cut off both arms of his wife, Marietta Samuel.
The wife is now amputates but the husband who was nabbed by the current CID head Bob Mtekama is serving jail sentence at Maula Prison.
