Police nab two men found with human leg

Police in eastern district of Mangochi have arrested two men found with a human leg alleged to have been brutally amputated from a mentally challenged person.

Mangochi Police Officer in Charge Ephraim Chipojola said Wednesday the two young men whose identities have not yet been made public were arrested in Machinga district on Monday, November 28.

He said the suspects are alleged to have cut the leg of the mental patient identified as Joseph Lufani. The incident happened at Makawa village along the Mangochi-Monkey Bay road.

“The incident happened during the night of 24th and 25th November and some people who found the mental patient battling for life in a pool of blood reported the matter to our office,” said Chipolojola.

The police boss said after rendering the person inoperative, the two run away to Machinga district where they reportedly offered to sell the leg to a businessman at K1 million.

Police have also concealed the identity of the person who was being offered to buy the leg because they “are treating as an informant” who will assist them in their investigations.

Meanwhile, the mental patient is admitted to Mangochi District Hospital for treatment while his leg is being kept at the Mangochi District mortuary.

This is the second time in few years an incidence of such kind has happened in eastern region.
