Police release more info on human parts sellers

Malawi Police have unveiled identities of people who are connected to the fate of the mental patient identified as Joseph Lufani in Mangochi district whose leg was amputated and offered for sale to a businessman in Machinga district.

Earlier reports had indicated that the Lufani was lying in agony at Mangochi District Hospital where he is receiving treatment while his leg is being kept at the Mangochi District mortuary.

A statement dated November 30 issued by the Machinga police station obtained by Nyasa Times, mentions the Machinga- based businessman Lada Chimbalanga as the one who was offered to buy the human leg by two men who are currently under police custody.

Men were found with a human leg similar to the one pictured

The suspects Yusuf Wilson 28 and Patrick Jackson Ching’amba 24 are said to have contacted Chimbalanga  -who is  also Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) president – if at all he would be interested to buy a human part from them.

“When he Chimbalanga was approached again on 27th November 2011 he immediately connived with police and planned to arrest the culprits”, reads the press release.

The suspects were told to meet the business man at his residence the following day on 28th November. At 1800hr the two suspects came with a black plastic bag containing unknown merchandise.

The suspects are said to have told Chimbalanga that they have been in that business for a quite considerable period.

They went on saying that they sell a full human body at K5 million.

They latter removed what happened to be a human foot in the ice block from the plastic bag.

They said they were selling it at MK1million but latter it was offered at MK800, 000, discount.

As they were negotiating on the price, detective inspector Blackson Muheya came in and arrested the suspects.

The two are still under police custody and would appear before court soon after the investigations.

If found guilty two suspects will be charged with grievous harm contrary to Section 238 of the penal code.

Yusuf Wilson hails from Ntuwambuzi village TA Sitola in Machinga district and Patrick Jackson Ching’amba hails from Mgongondole village TA Mabuka in Mulanje district.

This is the second time for Chimbalanga to be approached by people who sell human parts. The first time was in 2005 but he overreacted which made the sellers to run way before being apprehended.
