Police unveil identities of hardcore criminals who concealed real names

Police in Blantyre have finally established true identities of three hardcore criminals apprehended last week in the city with an AK47 and sophisticated pistol together with 79 live ammunitions.

The three unshakable thugs were arrested at an undisclosed lodge in Machinjiri Township where they had camped while scheming to terrorise the city and submitted wrong particulars to the law enforcers.

Police recorded the three people’s names as Steve Malikebu John White, 28, from Mphika village, T/A Chikumbu in Mulanje, Charles Tito James, 37, of Naisi village in T/A Machinjiri, Blantyre and 26-year-old Mike Anthony from Chikwi village in Zomba.

However, Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer, Elizabeth Divala, who earlier suspected the three had used fake names in order to conceal their previous criminal records, said they had at last established authentic particulars of the hardcore criminals.

“They revealed their real names after our CID officers interrogated them. They were also identified by police officers who arrested them during their previous crimes,” Divala told Nyasa Times.

She revealed that real names for Charles Tito James are Charles Khumalo aged 27 from Sapuwa village in T/A Chikumbu in Mulanje District. The criminal bolted from Zomba Maximum Prison where he was serving his 14-year jail term for robbery with violence.

Divala said Khumalo was one of the criminals who raided Mulli Brothers Group of Companies in 2011 and stole millions of kwacha and also wounded a guard.

According to Divala, authentic particulars for Stephano Malikebu John White are Robert Chauluka who also escaped from Zomba Prison where he had been referred to from Chichiri Prison in Blantyre to serve his sentence for robbery with violence.

And Mike Anthony had been identified as Mavuto Paipi from Namasalima village, T/A Njema in Mulanje. He escaped from Mulanje Prison where he was also serving his imprisonment with hard labour (IHL) sentence for robbery with violence (murder).
