PP ‘fraudsters’ on the loose with begging bowl, BJ warns
Malawi ‘s ruling People’s Party has warned people who are “going around collecting money” in the name of party that they will be prosecuted when caught.
PP treasurer general Brown Mpinganjira told Capital FM Daybreak Malawi programme on Monday that “fraudsters” are illegally soliciting donations from distressed companies and other people.
“It’s unfortunate that there are fraudsters masquerading themselves as members of People’s Party,” said Mpinganjira.
He said the party will only authorise a few officials to carry the begging bowl with “adequate documentation” from the party rank and file.
“There are very few people, people of respectable address who we have asked to assist us to solicit money, they have appropriate documentation,” he said.
Mpinganjira called on people giving donations to PP to be “extremely careful” or risk being robbed by the fraudsters who might be going around soliciting funds illegally .
He said the party is seeking supporting to help meet their K75 million budget to hold the national convention this year.
Mpinganjira said the budget reflects the “high standards” that they want to set and will “ hold a memorable convention.”
He warned the fraudsters that “once they are identified, they will face the consequences of the law.”
