PP geared for party building campaign – Makande

Ruling People’s Party (PP) has said it is working tirelessly to build up the party so that it becomes stronger ahead of 2014 polls.

PP spokesperson, Homphmally Makande said the idea has come as an initiative in order to register a landslide victory in the forthcoming general elections.

“We have registered a 50 percent win in our first ever contested elections[in Mzimba]. This has only left a mark that PP is not as simple as other parties have thought. Even though we have obtained such a victory, we thought it wise to embark on a massive countrywide party building campaign so as to obtain a landslide victory in 2014,” said Makande.

In a related development, Makande refuted claims that PP’s primary elections were unfair as other people are alleging.

“Let me clearly say that PP is one of the few parties which believe in transparency and accountability. Therefore it is not true that the party favoured Aram Beza at the expense of his rival, Joseph Mabvuto Kachali both of whom contested in the Mzimba Central Constituency.

“The fact is that these two fought neck to neck in the primary elections which were more than free and fair and then Mr. Beza was trusted with such a huge responsibility of representing the party. Mr. Kachali didn’t give up, he still contested as an independent candidate and then he has won that is part of democracy,” said Makande.
