Former ruling People’s Party (PP) continue to lose key members with the defection of former cabint ministers in the Joyce Banda administration, Haluma Daudi dumping the party for main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
PP has also lost its former administrative secretary Rev Peter Kaleso who has joined a tiny Umodzi Party.
Daudi was welcomed in MCP at a public rally.
MCP decond deputy secretary general Eisenhower Mkaka said the joining of of Daudi us “good news” to the party which seeks to form government in 2019, saying “in politics numbers do matter.”
Mkaka said MCP is “growing ar the grassroots.”
Meanwhile, Umodzi Party president John Chisi has welcomed Kaleso in his party’s fold.
Chisi said Kaleso, who once served as deputy Speaker of parliament, has vast experience in politics .
“We want more people of his calibre to join Umodzi Party,” he said.
PP spokesman Noah Chimpeni said the party has not been formally informed about Daudi’s resignation.
