Malawi’s ruling People’s Party (PP) governor for Nsanje south constituency June Salifu others officials Sunday announced they have joined opposition United Democratic Front ( UDF).
The members were welcomed in UDF at a function held at Ntowe trading centre, Traditional Authority Ndamela in Nsanje.
The defectors included Clement Kapito, Nsanje south constituency campaign director .
Salifu said people in the area decided to ditch the PP because they see “no future in the party.”
They were welcomed by UDF executive members who included Abubakar Mbaya, youth director Shaibu Kaliati and Mrs Grace Karim.
Mbaya welcomed the members and said UDF president Atupele Muluzi and the ‘agenda for change’ was resonating with the people.
PP deputy spokesman Ken Msonda said people have a democratic right to join a party of their choice.
He has however said that he is yet to confirm whether the defectors are true PP members.
