PP women donate to Mlambe hospital

Women in People’s Party on Wednesday donated assorted items to guardian shelter at Mlambe Hospital in Blantyre.

This comes after revelations that most patients and guardians go without food for days as the hospital does not provide food.

Deputy National Director for women in PP, Etinor Koloviko said women in the party led by State Vice President Joyce Banda, are committed to helping other disadvantaged women.

“We do not like to see our friends suffer, our president Joyce Banda is always teaching us about giving to the needy and sharing the little we have,” Koloviko said.

“As women we will always share with our friends and ensure that they have something to eat,” she said

Mlambe Hospital Director, George Goliati, commended the PP women for the donation.

“The hospital does not provide food for the patients, when they do it is at a cost which most people cannot afford to pay, the food items they have received today will go a long way to easing the problems that they face as most people go for days without eating,” explained Goliati

Mercy Manda, from a nearby village, said the donation has come at the right time as she did not have food to cook for her sick grandson who has been ill for a week.

“I did not cook anything for my grandson today, he has just had a banana and cooked maize, but with this flour I will go and cook porridge for him now, “said Manda, adding that she sometimes stays a day without eating.

The donated items include maize flour, sugar and salt among others.
