Presidential Cup rescheduled as Malawi netball mourns Connis
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has shifted the dates for the Presidential Initiative in Sports (PIS) netball national phase scheduled for this weekend to next week.
Nam General Secretary Carol Bapu said this is in honour of the fallen legend Connis Mhone who died at the Kamuzu Central Hospital on Monday after a short illness.
“We have pushed the games from this week to next week due to the death of Connis Mhone. This means the games will be played next week between 21st and 23rd January, 2016” said Bapu.
Bapu described Mhone’s death as a big blow to the netball fraternity which has left a very big vacuum to be filled.
She however hailed the late Mhone for her passion in netball.
“She was indeed a legend. She was passionate about playing, umpiring and coaching of netball” she said.
Until her death, Mhone was coach for Central Region netball power house Civo Nets as well as Malawi Under 21 national netball team.
Mhone was in the the squad which participated at the Malawi netball team’s first ever appearance at the netball world cup in 1995 where the Queens finished on 8th position.
