Private citizens, led by Kambanje, launches separate investigations into plane: Says there is too much secrecy

Concerned with what they call ‘secretive nature at which the issue of the missing plane was handled’, a grouping of some private citizens in the country, under the banner ‘Concerned Citizens’, have launched an investigation into what caused the accident.

Led by Edwards Kambanje, Oliver Nakoma, and Osman Dagia,  as leaders of the ground, the Concerned Citizens, in a statement released today, says that Malawians have numerous unanswered questions as regards the way the entire Malawi Government Machinery handled the whole situation.

Among others, the group wonders why President Lazarus Chakwera took almost 12 hours to inform the public of the missing plane and why the search and rescue operation started in the evening when the plane went missing at around 10 a.m.

The Concerned Citizens said, “The secretive nature at which the issue of the missing plane was handled is also leading us to speculate more on whether this was a mere accident and or orchestrated move.”

Against this suspicion of foul play, the group has launched an investigation into the tragedy and has since advised all Malawians who have true information as regards what happened to furnish them.

“This means that as Concerned Citizens, we have therefore launched our investigation and will be able to release our report to the public in due course. We would also like to assure all citizens that will give us information that their identities will be protected and they may communicate to us through the following numbers,” reads part of the statement.

The Concerned Citizens have also called upon the US Government to come in and provide their expertise and lead in conducting an independent investigation, saying it has sophisticated technology and means capable enough to uncover everything that happened on this fateful day.

The group has also assured Malawians that soon the truth as regards the circumstances that led to the plane crash and the deaths of Vice President Chilima and eight others will be known.

  1. USA yes, but they should have also asked Germany, the manufacturers of the plane, to be included in the investigations

  2. Its good that private citizens have initiated the investigation into what happened to the plane that claimed the lives of our beloved colleagues. But how credible are these guys? What criteria will they use to come up with reliable report? Are they not prone to manuplation?

  3. Who the *F* are you to conduct the investigation? Do not play politics and try to give Malawians false information. We lost a great leader and we don’t want people like you to devide us any further. We are still mourning our leader , brother and friend who gave us all the hopes and the future of our beloved country Malawi.Leave it to the authorities to investigate and give us unbiased report not you fools

  4. What a troubled thought.

Individual demanding to solicit unverifiable information to find out the truth, is laughable. Which organization would be privy to supplying its corporate intellectual property rights to a body that is not legally recognized and has no legal authority over what it plans to execute. Indeed, what would you call your findings? speculations?

And should your findings be found to be false, are you willing to face justice both public and private? Can you expect the aircraft manufacturers to supply you with information when your organization is not a legal entity, registered and recognized as such. And you expect the military to supply probable intelligence information freely and without seeking legal protection. And in any event, co-sign to be taken to court should the findings end up incriminating it!

You should let the government do its job. Its got the legal right and mandate to request international assistance by itself or through higher authority via bilateral agreements. No one wants tik tok, facebook or open source justice!

  5. Aircraft accidents investigations are complex investigations. They can only be carried out by trained aircraft investigators. These may be from the authorities, USA the NTSB, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency the French BEA and many others. An aircraft investigation team includes also the aircraft manufacturer, the engine manufacturer and other experts. An investigation is not started with preconceived notion of what is perceived to have taken place. It is started by examining all relevant facts, the airworthiness of the aircraft, crew training records, weather, eyewitness reports and many other facts. Aircraft accidents investigations can take months and sometimes years to complete. The start of an investigation can be affected by accessibility to the crash site due to weather, terrain, and also due to lack of proper resources. The aim of an aircraft investigation is not to apportion blame on anyone. Whereas car accidents occur almost everyday for different reasons, aircraft accidents happen infrequently and are often fatal. So, we should not be speculating anything until the experts have completed their work. It is carried out to find the cause or probable cause where there are no survivors. An accident report will come out normally with lessons learnt and recommendations in order to avoid accidents of the similar nature from happening in the future.
