Prophet Bushiri’s bodyguards harass journalist at airport

Bodyguards of Malawi’s renowned youthful man of God, Major Prophet  Shepherd Bushiri, Tuesday harassed a journalist who was taking his pictures at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe as he arrived from spiritual duties outside the country.

The personal bodyguards intimidated Lilongwe based Nyasa Times journalist, Chancy Namadzunda, before ordering him to delete the photographs from his camera.

However, the three heavily-built bodyguards did not physically harass the journalist.

The incident occurred when a group of journalists from different media houses in the city went to the airport to welcome Airtel Rising Stars teams that went to Nigeria to take part in a continental tournament.

Coincidently, Bushiri was in the same plane carrying the two teams- Joyce Banda Foundation School and Matindi Private Academy- which arrived at around 12:30 pm.

The first person to appear outside KIA terminals was the man of God, clad in a blue suit, and was welcomed by his television crew which immediately conducted interviews with him.

It was then that Namadzunda went closer the interview spot and started taking photographs of the prophet while still on camera with his media team and a few faithful.

“As a journalist, I thought it was necessary to take pictures considering the man of God is a public figure and the place too was also public. I was also interested in what he was telling his media team on the successes of his mission outside the country so that I could have a piece too on the same,” Namadzunda said.

He said after taking a few photographs, the well built personal bodyguard dragged him away from the scene before interrogating him.

“At first I didn’t know who they were because they looked just like anybody else on the team but I was shocked after they started questioning who I was, why I was there and what I wanted to do with the pictures.

“After I explained to them they demanded that I delete the photographs on the spot claiming people had been talking negative things about the man of God in the media,” explained Namadzunda saying complied to
their demand and deleted some.

A journalist, Nathan Majawa of FM 101 Power, who witnessed the incident unfold expressed shock at Prophet Bushiri’s bodyguards’ action to order Namadzunda to delete the photos.
