PSI Malawi has sold 1.5 million ‘wassup sweetie’ condoms within a month
Population Service International (PSI) says it has sold 1.5 million Limited Edition condoms since the launch of the promotion dubbed ‘Wassup Sweetie’ in September, 2013.
Speaking during the first of three raffle draws held in Lilongwe, PSI Condom Programme Coordinator, Brenda Kamanga, on Friday said in total PSI produced 2.5 million Limited Edition condoms for the promotion.
“Demand for the condoms has been high and we are getting several entries, this shows that a lot of people are eager to take part in the promotion,” said Kamanga.
According to the PSI coordinator, the aim of Chishango Limited Edition Wassup Sweetie promotion is to reduce HIV/AIDS infection rates and to re-energise their target audiences which are the youth by increasing the use of Chishango condoms.

The first prize, a Mountain Bike went to a Mr. Mwale from Mzimba. Other prizes included eight Samsung mobile phones and 35 T-shirts which were given to 43 lucky Chishango Limited Edition consumers.
She said PSI decided to introduce the promotion at this point because the country is approaching the festive season, a period when people are most sexually active.
“During the festive season people are likely to indulge themselves in unprotected sex as such we want to use this promotion to encourage them to protect themselves,” Kamanga explained.
She urged Malawians to send in as many entries as possible in order to increase their chances of winning.
“The process is very simple, all one needs to do is to buy a pack of Limited Edition Chishango condoms, write your name, address and number on the condom pack and drop it at your nearest wholesaler or retailer,” she said.
The second raffle draw is expected to take place on 8 November, 2013.
