Quarter Final Preview: 2016 FISD Challenge Cup

There might be no action in the elite TNM  Super League this weekend until Wednesday next week the 9th of October, but, by that point the eight remaining teams in the inaugural K45 Million Foundation for Sustainable Irrigation Development (FISD) Chalenge Cup will battle it out for a four Semifinal slots.

Three non-league sides namely, Nsanama FC of Machinga, Zolozolo FC from Mzimba and Tiakalulu FC from Lilongwe are through to the quarterfinals and are hoping to pull up a surprise by making it into the Semifinal.

Tiakalulu FC who knocked out Southern Region Carlsberg Cup champions Dululu FC will this Saturday face Blue Eagles at the Nankhaka Stadium.

Tiakalulu FC Technical Director Africano Phiri sent a  warning shot last week before their round of 16 match against Dululu that their intention is to grab the title.

Phiri said his team joined the tournament not just to participate but to compete therefore people should expect surprises from the Chipiku Central Region Football League (CRFL) outfit.

Kamuzu Barracks who knocked out Epac FC 4-2 through post-match penalties to reach the quarterfinals will welcome Nsanama FC at the Civo Stadium.

KB match-maker Harvey Mkacha who has been in top form and has scored a couple of vital goals this season recently said anything can happen in football but was optimistic his side will make it into the semi’s.

His coach Billy Phambala also maintained that they are geared to assasinate any team standing on their way both in the league and cup games.

High flying Mighty Be Forward are expected to entertain Northern Region outfit Zolozolo FC at the a Kamuzu Stadium.

The Nomads thumped Lake Valley 5-0 to reach the quarterfinals while Zolozolo FC saw off Dwangwa Town Hammers 1-0 at the Mzuzu Stadium.

Finally, Silver Strikers who haven’t yet won any Silverware this season will be up against fellow super league side Dwangwa United.

With their 1-0 inspirational victory over Nyasa Big Bullets a fortnight ago and a 0-0 draw against the super league defending champions last Sunday the Bankers should however expect tough opposition as they date Dwangwa United at the Bankers backyard Silver Stadium.

Meanwhile, organizers of the competition Football Association Malawi (FAM) believes the competitions is billiing according to the expectations of both the sponsors and the.fans.
