Rainbow Paints has boosted Southern Region Top VI Netball Series by raising the sponsorship from K1 million to K2 million.
The company’s Sales and Marketing manager Bruno Silas said the development on Tuesday at Blantyre Youth Centre during a re-launching ceremony that they were impressed with how the tournament was run last year.
“We considered the current economic situation and we felt that K1 million was not enough. We feel K2 million will do justice to the players who sacrifice their sweat to make the competition exciting,” he said.
He said that since the company started sponsoring netball they have never been let down by the administration.
“The sponsorship would continue in years to come depending on impressive administration and discipline among teams. We hope this time around some teams will not decide to withdraw from the competition,” Silas said.
The Rainbow Paints sales and marketing manager said they would also consider sponsoring some of the exciting players incuding Diamonds goal attacker Jessica Mazengera that have emerged following their participation in the top VI Series.
Silas was reacting to remarks made by Southern Region Netball League vice chairperson Isaac Chimwala, who asked for support on behalf of the players.
Speaking earlier Chimwala said Rainbow Paints has helped in redefyining the sport in the region.
“Last season they left us with a promise and now they have comeback to fulfill it. Our administration takes deep pride in the efforts which Rainbow Paints is giving us,” he said.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary Carol Bapu, while applauding Rainbow Paints for hiking sponsorship, asked netball fans to patronise Rainbow Paints products.
The sponsorship was brokered by Sports Writers Association of Malawi when the body was looking for a social football tournament.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
