Rainstorm damage Balaka Stadium

Balaka District Assembly and soccer lovers had a rude awakening on Sunday afternoon when part of the Balaka Stadium fence collapsed due to heavy rains.

Most of the people Nyasa Times interviewed blamed the District Assembly for showing negligence as the fence already showed signs that it was in bad shape sometime back.

Balaka Stadium Manager Fidelisi Josiah could not disclose as to how much it will cost to renovate the damaged part.

According to Josiah, the district assembly will wait for authorities from the Ministry of works to do the assessment.

He said the damage will heavily affect the District Assembly as it will not be able to raise revenues through bookings.

He said youths who also use the stadium will be affected.

According to information sourced, the stadium generates more revenue when it host soccer matches.

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers has been using Balaka Stadium as its home ground in the just ended 2014/15 TNM Super League season.

This is pathetic. Were the contractors involved of high class? Who were the consultants? By the look of the picture cheap materials were used.

There is no stadium in Balaka. What is there is a ground where football is played on. What has happened also shows how poor our building structures are. The Engineers, Surveyors, etc are all half baked graduates from poly
