Red Lions fire coach Phambala: Nkuna back incharge
Red Lions FC has fired coach Billy Phambala after the first round in Malawi’s top league side TNM Super League.
Phambala was fired alongside his assistant Nelson Chirwa and have been replaced by former coach Collins Nkuna and former Flames robust midfielder Pritchard Mwansa.

Nkuna returned to the Red Lions role after a six-month tour of duty in DRC on peace keeping mission.
Phambala led the team to fourth in the league and in the run for the title having finished 26 points just three points adrift of the league leaders Moyale Barracks.
“It was just an order that he should leave because the team’s coach has returned from DRC,” said the sources.
“He just has to accept it as you know in the military he has to obey orders from above.”
Phambala former Azam Tigers player took up coaching after retiring from football at Red Lions. He was coach for the team’s reserves Cobbe Barracks.
He was drafted to the main team after the retiring of long time coach Franco Ndawa from the Malawi Defence Force and was also assigned to Kamuzu Barracks.
He inspired Kamuzu Barracks, to finish the league on pole position last season and in the run for the title.
But the management’s decision to remove him as coach after falling out with the team officials boomeranged as the team finished barely within the paid-up ranks on position four.
He was removed for criticising that the top management was interfering with his work.
