Sibande the opposition has no powers to influence the private media, but rather the private media realizes that the opposition in Malawi is voiceless and it tends to give it a platform to be heard, otherwise I agree with your suggestion to reform the media, more specifically MBC.
A mixed bag of good and bad analytical reporting you have made. Sometimes journalists do their jobs truthfully and professionally but if the truthful message they carry is not liked by the govt of the day, they face the wrath of the govt. Also as you say the govt may claim or justify stupidly that there is press freedom just because they have not arrested journalists on certain events but they kill them or harass or threaten them behind the scene for being truthful and professional in their journalistic reporting.
