Road Traffic Officer kills pedestrian: Malawi Police fails to arrest him
A road traffic Police Officer based in Zomba has hit a man to death in Dedza.
Dedza Police Deputy Publicist Cassim Manda confirmed the development, saying the accident occurred on Friday in the evening at Msambiro near Dedza Mountain View Lodge while Innocent Sulani driving from Lilongwe to Zomba hit the pedestrian.
Manda said Sulani hit the 52-year-old pedestrian Samson John who was crossing M1 Road and died on the spot due to the impact causing severe head injuries.
Sulani, working for Zomba Road Traffic and Safety Services, was driving a Honda registration number MN 4928 saloon.
The deceased was coming from Chiyembekeza Village in Traditional Authority’s areas in the district when he met his fate.
In a related development a cyclist was also hit to death by a car in Dedza on the same day when the motor vehicle driven by Giant Scot hit to death 25-year-old cyclist Edezio Constantino.
Constatino aged 25 of Mtandamaha Village in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto in Dedza was hit while carrying a female passenger who sustained fracture injuries.
Scot driving a motor vehicle registration number BS 1402 Toyota Hilux Double Cabin was coming from Salima to Blantyre.

I am of the view that police should also start arresting pedestrians who violate road laws. It is not fair to arrest drivers yet most pedestrians today do not mind about road safety issues. Look at what happens along fly overs in towns. The Government constructed those fly overs to reduce congestion and accidents. A pedestrian has chosen not to use it but rather just crossing the road carelessly. Kodi ndi tchimo kukhala ndi galimoto so much so that pedestrians should harrass drivers anyhow?
We don’t know who was wrong but lets take the law in good use. The traffic Police Officer must first be Arrested and put into custody until all procedures are met. Mind you the deceased cannot defend himself now all what we can hear are full package of lies from the mouth of the Police Officer. Take the accused to court of course with UNYOLO and not otherwise. Remember he is in the group of public figure head so he must NOT be given bail until the court decides doing so with good proof that the deceased was in the… Read more »
