Relatives hunt for murder suspect, hand him to Malawi Police
A man who is suspected to have killed his brother in law in Mulanje has been handed over to police in Mulanje after being on the run since 14 June this year.
Mulanje Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Gresham Ngwira confirmed that Lucius Saini was handed over to Mathambi Police Unit in the district by his relative who had hunted him down after supposedly committing the crime.
“On Wednesday last week, the suspect went to his sister to discuss with her some family matters. As the discussions were underway, he started assaulting his sister violently, a development which angered the husband, late McDonald Makoka. As Makoka was trying to rescue his wife, the suspect assaulted him with an axe leading to a deep cut on his left hip joint which led to his death,” said Ngwira.
The 30 year old suspect will soon appear before court to answer murder charges which are against Section 309 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, the police have thanked the relatives of Saini for helping them in apprehending their Saini saying they have displayed an understanding of collective responsibility in fighting crime.
