In a bid to face and fight poverty head-on, a new Non Governmental Organisation, Poverty Dynamics Malawi (PDM) has been launched in the Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.

Executive Director of the newly formed NGO, Rev. Dr. Joda Mbewe, said he was optimistic that his organisation will help in the fight against poverty.

Mbewe said poverty means a deficit in household food, lack of shelter; clean water knowledge and skills as well as lack of knowledge in God.

“The purpose of dynamics in Malawi is to reduce deep poverty in our country through supporting community organising local settings and building competencies in community transformation through partnerships with other actors,” said Mbewe.

Mbewe said Poverty Dynamics in Malawi is a humanitarian organisation working with people in power as they change oppressive conditions that dominate their lives and discover together the power to choose their own future.

According to Mbewe the organisation has a long term vision in Malawi, envisions societies that will not tolerate gaps that presently exist between the rich and the poor.

The organisation has since started repositioning itself by stretching their programmes at the highly poverty stricken area of Mtsiliza which is just a stone throwing away with a posh Area 47, in Lilongwe.

“Mtsiliza is a geographically discrete community which will help to give boundaries to our proposed project that will allow monitoring and evaluation of impact of the project,” said Mbewe.

The organisation has set up some steps in fighting the poverty in Malawi which include conducting baseline survey, to determine if the area qualifies for organisations according to PDM National Strategy.

It has also identified that networking is also crucial in the fight against poverty.

According to the ED the leadership development has also been identified as another component in fighting poverty.

The NGO has already been registered with Council for Non-Governmental Organisation (CONGOMA).

Launching the Poverty Dynamics, Principal Secretary, in the Ministry of Labour, Patrick Kabambe, commended Poverty Dynamics for the initiative.

Kabambe said NGOs plays vital role in the development of countries.
