Reverend Levi Nyondo of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia on Saturday retained his post as General Secretary with overwhelming votes at the ongoing Synod indaba being held in Karonga district.

Reverend Nyondo will serve another four year term got 236 votes.

The elections took place during the Synod’s 33rd biannual conference, which is being held at Karonga Teachers College Hall. More than 500 delegates from South Africa, Zimbabwe ,Zambia and Malawi are in attendance.

Reverend Dr. Timothy Nyasulu is now the new Moderator – the spiritual father of the synod.

Nyondo: Gets fresh mandate

The major casualty is his deputy the charismatic Reverend Maurice Munthali who miserably lost to Reverend JBV Mwale.

Mwale, a former lecture at the Theological College in Zomba amassed 215 votes trailed by outgoing moderator Reverend Clifford Baloyi with 155.

Reverend Munthali’s failure means he will revert to his normal duties as a Cleric and will be assigned a place where he will minister.

Sources told NyasaTimes that Reverend Munthali, who has served the Synod as deputy General Secretary for more than 10 years, failed to secure even a nomination.

“I think he has not been elected because he is retiring in the next two years,” said our source.
