Robbers steal K2.5mil, laptops from Thyolo Education Office

Unknown criminals on Thursday night broke into Thyolo District Education Office (DEM) and stole K2,5 million and four laptops.

According to Thyolo Police Officer-in-charge Deputy Commissioner Teresa Nankhuni, the criminals broke into the office building after successfully overpowering the guards that were guarding the premises.

“It is alleged that the criminals tied up the guards and broke into the building. They removed all the ream locks on each and every room within the building using some crowbars,” said Nankhuni.

She further added that  after searching in every room, the criminals managed to find their way into an accounts office where they managed to steal the alleged K2,5 million which was meant for Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) related activities.

Said Nankhuni “Apart from the said amount, the robbers also got away with fuor laptops that belonged to the deputy education manager, human resource, planning and accounts offices.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the matter. So far no arrests have been made but rumours are rife that there might be some foul play surrounding the robbery.
