Robert Laws Secondary School alumni form association
Former students of Robert Laws Secondary School have formed an association to contribute to the development of their school through improvement and provision of financial and material support, and enhancing networking.
The association, Robert Laws Secondary School Alumni Association, has been dully registered by the Registrar General. The school is located at Embangweni in Mzimba District.
Sekani Ziba, a pharmacist at Good Hope Pharmaceuticals in Lilongwe, who was a student between 1994 and 1998,is the interim chairperson. He is deputized by Sobhuza Sibande (1994-1998), the design, monitoring and evaluation coordinator at the World Vision.
The General Secretary is Dr Phinias Mfune (1995 – 1997), a medical doctor at Kamuzu Central Hospital and his vice Patrick Thawe (1994-1998), a project field officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) while Emmanuel Muwamba (1992-1996), a communications manager at CISANET, is the Treasurer General.
Muwamba is also handling issues of publicity for the association in liaison with the chairperson and the General Secretary.
Commenting on the formation of the association, Ziba said: “It has been our wish to contribute to our former school. We will endeavour to raise financial and material resources for efficient and effective teaching and learning as well as the general wellbeing of students.
“And we will also help develop and maintain an active ex-students (Alumni) interaction and enhance the image of Robert Laws through self-enrichment, career development and role modelling in the wider society.”
The association has an endorsed Constitution to guide its smooth operation and has also opened a bank account with NBS, Lilongwe Branch whose account number is 0050539976017.

The association has a Board of Trustees comprised of eminent people who also walked the corridors of Robert Laws Secondary School. They are Dr Bagrey Ngwira (1983 – 1987), a medical doctor and research fellow at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi; Mrs Gloria Nyamndoli Mhango (19987-1991), an administrative assistant at the National Construction Industry Council; Denis Kachikho(1985 – 1989) a sale officer at MONSANTO Malawi; and Mapemphero Mtawa Manda (1991 -1995) a private practising lawyer.
Others include Prince Tembo; Samuel Ng’anjo(1980 – 1984)a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department (Mechanical Engineering) at The Polytechnic; McRobert Manjale (1985 – 1989) Centre Manager for MACOHA in Lilongwe; and Fannie Nthakomwa, nee Mkandawire (1993-96), Operations Manager at Tilitonse Fund.
