Sankhani, Chaima’s future in Tanzania shaky after Kinnah exit

Malawian professional players; goalkeeper Owen Chaima and defender Sankhani Mkandawire face dark cloud hovering over their future at Tanzania Mainland Premier League team Mbeya City Council FC.

Owen Chaima : Future hazy at Mbeya

This follows the departure of compatriot coach Kinnah Phiri after the former Malawi national football team mentor severed ties with the club over contractual issues.

The outspoken coach clarified that he was not sacked over last season’s performance but asked for termination of the contract as it was difficult for them to pay him.

He feared that Chaima and Sankhani would have problems to live in his absence.

“I feel that life would be tough for Owen and Sankhani at Mbeya City Council after my departure because they have not been paid for three months,” Kinnah said.

“They are really struggling to survive and I pity them for that because it seems the club is going through some financial problems.”

Kinnah recruited the two players last season from Malawi’s giants Nyasa Big Bullets to bolster the defence.

But their presence was not heavily felt as the team struggled by finishing 11th out of 16 teams blamed on a blunt striking force.
