Scorchers stars rewarded! MSACCO hands over K1million cash prizes to Asimenye and Sabina
Two of Malawi’s history-making Scorchers have been handed a generous cash reward after their heroics helped fire the nation to a historic first-ever qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with financial services provider Msilikali SACCO (MSACCO) stepping up to celebrate its own in style.

MSACCO presented tokens of appreciation worth K1,000,000 each to members Asimenye Simwaka and Sabina Thom, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Scorchers’ remarkable run at the 2026 WAFCON — a tournament that ended with Malawi securing a spot on football’s biggest stage for the very first time.
The handover ceremony was presided over by MSACCO Board Chairperson, Lt Col Andrew Kamponda, who paid tribute to the pair for carrying the national flag with distinction throughout the campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Kamponda stressed that while Simwaka and Thom had made the entire nation proud on the pitch, their achievements carried special significance for the wider MSACCO family, who watched on as two of their own helped make history for Malawian football.
Simwaka collected the dummy cheque in person, also accepting the award on behalf of teammate Thom, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
MSACCO used the occasion to heap further praise on the Scorchers as a whole, wishing the team continued success as they prepare to fly Malawi’s flag on the global stage, while reserving special pride for Simwaka and Thom for representing both their country and their SACCO with such distinction.
