Tionge Munthali : Reigning Miss Heritage Malawi

Kimpho Loka, Miss Heritage Malawi public relations manager said the organisers  want to give more girls an opportunity to compete this year.

“We are looking at 18-29 years of age as the only prerequisite,” Loka said.

Last year, the beauty contest was held on 4th November at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC), and was won by a Malawi Assemblies of God University student Tionge Munthali.

Munthali also represented Malawi at the annual Miss Heritage Global pageant held at Gallagher Estate in Johannesburg, South Africa, from February 8 – 18,  which saw her  battle it out with 44 contestants drawn from across the world.

The Miss Heritage Global competition was won by 20-year-old Théodora P. Marais from France.

“We had a very good bonding with Théo and she deserved the crown,” said the 22-year-old Munthali.

Munthali said she had a “wonderful experience”  interacting with different cultures.

This pageant brings together women from across the globe to showcase the culture of their respective countries.

Munthali  says it was such a “rewarding opportunity.”

She however refused to comment on controversies that riddled her  reign as at one point it was reported that organisers had dethroned her for no apparent reason.

Munthali said it has not been an easy reign but she remains proud that the pageant has not lost its dignity and would be delighted to handover the crown having with so many good memories and important lessons learned from the competition.

The inaugural Miss Heritage Malawi in 2015 was won by model Alinafe Chalunda.

Miss Heritage was founded on the basis to incorporate all nations, having young unmarried beautiful women from the ages of 17 to 28 from different backgrounds to be involved in the process of initiating positive sustainable development to the world through the use of beauty pageantry to promote world heritage and tourism.

The pegeant believes that the fusion of heritage and beauty pageantry is very much an astute noble idea because it creates the idea of modelling for a purpose that is greater and deeper, making pageantry a tool for sustainable development.
