Seed Co spoils Lilongwe golfers

Giant seed manufacturers and distributors Seed Co Limited on Sunday, October 6, 2013 spoiled golfers from Lilongwe Golf Club and other surrounding clubs with high quality seed- ahead of the planting season after hosting a day long golf tournament at the 18-hole Lilongwe golf course.

A field of 78 golfers, amongst them heads of British and Tanzanian missions in Malawi took part in the competition, played on 4-Ball Alliance format. Under the format, golfers were put into groups of four players each with the highest scoring team emerging champions for the tournament.

After a heated contest in the field, a team comprising former club chairman William Matambo, Nayan Kalaria, Andrew Moloseni and Dilip Vansia emerged winners with 88 points.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Matambo hailed Seed Co for sponsoring the competition and the timely prizes.

“These prizes could not have come at a better time than this, when people will be going into the field to plant their crops. I’m hoping to be in the same team when Seed Co comes again next year,” said Matambo.

On second position was a side comprising Mphatso Chadzala, Peter Mtema, Deepah Gill and Terick Ismael while a team of seasoned golfers Thakor Sanjay, Smile Namagonya, Sheila Chinkhandwe and JT Lee came third.

Seed Co’s group chief executive Morgan Nzwere hailed the golfers for patronizing the tournament in their large numbers.

“The main objective behind this tournament was to sensitize the business captains- most of whom are in the agricultural sector on the importance of planting using the right seed for better results and ecological environment.

“As we expanding our investments in Malawi, we would like to make this tournament an annual event on the Lilongwe Golf Club calendar,” said Nzwere, whose company is expected to unveil a top of the range seed
manufacturing factory and office complex worth 8 million US dollars in Lilongwe early next year.
