Surestream Academy has been reshuffled following the departure of influential former Technical Director Peter Mponda as Malawi’s first ever proper football academy accepted his resignation.
Inside sources confided to Nyasa Times that the most backroom staff in the technical panel would reshuffled and likely to follow Mponda who was accused of handpicking the coaches.
The highly placed source said Mponda recruited his peers citing Sherry Msuku, with no proper youth development coaching skills.
The source said Abel Mkandawire has been promoted to the head coach but the former Bullets and Flames skipper’s position remains vacant.
“What the management found out is shocking because most of the people employed at Surestream were recruited behind the back of the management,” he said.
“Mponda wielded too much powers that he could not take any orders from anyone.”
The development has been corroborated by Surestream Petroleum Public Relations Officer Linda Chiume.
“Following the impasse the management decided to sent all the employers home so that they would be operating from home until the dust is settled,” Chiume said.
She also accused Mponda of committing a criminal offence by registering Surestream in him personal name.
“Peter Mponda was entrusted by his employers as Technical Director to register the team. But he decided to claim that Surestream is his team and that Suretream are just sponsors. This is a criminal offence,” she said.
Chiume also assured that the team was intact and would not be affected by the departure of Mponda and the squabbles which she said has since been resolved.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
