She is on Malawi Kwacha but has no money: SOS for Rose Chibambo hospital bill
Heroine and historic figure Rose Chibambo is likely to spend another night in hospital after she was admitted on Monday for heart attack.

Her relations say she will struggle to pay the hospital bills at Mwaiwathu in Blantyre and have since extended a begging bowl to well wishers.
“Athough she is on money, she does not have the money,” said Chibambo’s grand daughter Juliet Mhango.
Chibambo is on a K200 bank note.
She is the first female cabinet minister in Kamuzu Banda first ever cabinet of 1964.
Chibambo’s penniless status has restarted debate on former cabinet minister Moses Dossi proposal for a law that would allow senior politicians like Chibambo access state funds for their upkeep and social welfare.
Veteran politician Gwanda Chakuamba went on television asking people to help him because he had no money.
President Peter Mutharika and other well wishers sent him cash upkeep.
Mhango said it was pathetic that Chibambo, who is supposed to hold a high status position in the society, should now live like a destitute.
If my history is right, she was in prison and gave birth, then went into exile. Which means that she could not have received any money from the Banda government. I can only imagine how she survived this long. God bless her and het family. God fprgive those that don’t use their common sense.
Ine kudabwa

Most prominent people who have gone to Mwaiwathu Hospital never made it. I wonder why people rush to Waiwathu leaving other better hospitals.
Sorry for that but this should be a wake up call to our politicians they trust private hospitals and not our public hospitals the reason is simple they use tax payers money to pay their bill when they are in power leaving poor Malawia’s to suffer in public hospitals with no drugs please our leaders try to buy drugs and employ qualified doctors and all necessary equipment in our public hospitals then we will have good medical care in Malawi and everyone will be using these public hospitals.
Very sad indeed koma poti ndi Mtumbuka zilibe kanthu akanakhala munthu.
The problem is that thieves still govt money particularly DPP. Otherwise this was their pension. We can not pay retirement package to president and vice president only this is very seriou akulu akulu.
Oh…. shame so malawians believe that R189m was paid to South African hospitals for Aleke Banda’s treatment! Which hospitals? This is almost the whole budget of Malawi then. Wow, indeed the saying, “bana ba nkharamu tiku lyela muvi njelo njelo.”
she is not more Malawian than my anganga who suffered of thagata awa anali anduna sanadyeko gumbi lero tiziwathandiza ndife why? poti ndiMalawi muona Mbuzi Muthalika mane mbwee.
We must all plan for our retirement. Does being first female minister qualify one to be a hero?
Oh… Cry the beloved Country. If politicians were serving malawians and stopped being corrupt the public hospitals would be in very good conditions. Public hospitals in Malawi are very scary places more scary than the graveyards of the 18th century.
Please don`t scandalize sickness.
Am sure the guardian just want to swindle the money to be raised by people of Government. I personally know mama Rose Chibambo is not a destitute. she lives in Chimaliro a huge mansion. she drives here in Mzuzu. i remembe during Bingu one street in Mzuzu was named Rose Chibambo and she also received loyalties. why doi you want to redicule your grandmother or your mother by this SOS. THERE IS MORE THAT WHAT MEETS THE EYE. I REST MY CASE
I still remember the government of Bingu paid to a south african hospital over R189m(about K7bn) for Aleke Banda over a terminal illness when suppossedly the man could have been catered for by his relatives. It was all politics. . Malawi is a stupid place to be….There is something wrong with us Malawians.
the fact that she opted for Mwaiwathu Private Hospital is a clear sign that she has money. Why wasn’t she taken to Mzuzu Central Hospital? The woman has money and has rich Children and Grandchildren who can pay her bills at Mwaiwathu a hundred times. retired Politicians such as Dossi, Chakwamba, Chiwambo etc should realise that despite their lack of money but they are better off than many Malawians. They have cars, Kids abroad and in good jobs even here in Malawi.
Mwaiwathu Private Hospital Uh! why did she not go to QECH where I as a working civil servant will go when sick. I cant afford Mwaiwathu yet am working who ever took her there knew the bill tag and was prepared to settle the same. Do not overburden an ailing economy with stupid bills enough of this nonsense being on the K200.00 note is not a passport to access our taxes. Shut up and pay for what you bargained for Mwaiwathu or else take here to Chiradzulu District Hospital for free
THE PROBLEMS WITH MALAWIAN MINISTER WHEN THEY ARE IN POWER THEY JUST PLAY WITH THEIR MONEY THEY DONT SAVE NOW THATS THE RESULTS
Chibambo family has money. Senior politicians like everyone else need to plan for their old age. Not planning for your future when you hold senior positions is perhaps a reason why our senior leaders also fail to plan for the country’s long term future.
The fact that her face is on one of the country’s banknotes is an honour enough. And that’s all. Let’s not cultivate a silly culture of glorifying politicians by giving unnecessary monetary rewards. True politics hinges on serving others and not vice versa.
Do we still put pictures of living people on the money? Was this practice not stopped after the Muluzi K200 Note? just wondering….
Mukupita kuzipatala zodula mulibe chilichonse, why? kodi mukatchuka ndiye kuti mupite ku mwaiwathu? kumavomereza amalawi ngati tilibe zotiyenereza tiyeni tinke kumene tingakwanise paife tokha osadalia ndithandizeni bwana. musatitengere koyesa kuti anthu anena nchiani. from 1964 up to date you mean poyambira alibe, ananu ntchito yanu ndinchiani? titati tifufuze tipeza kuti mwa ana anu ena ali ku kamuzu acadamy yet mukukanika musokhamusokha wa bill yamanu. idiot generation
I have read most of the comments on this article and it is very sad that most Malawians are very insensitive. Why do you deliberately miss a fact that Mayi Chibambo never enjoyed the full benefits of being a minister because she was booted out of the cabinet and arrested at the same time? I will be very much surprised if these comments are coming from the group of people who follow the history of Malawi. Once you were labeled a rebel by Kamuzu, life wasn’t easy for you and you could not even dare open a business. All your assets were forfeited by the regime. From these comments, I’m also not surprised why in Malawi we don’t have a hero’s acre because we don’t know who are our heroes. We are very confused people and education is not benefiting us. I will not be surprised to hear someone calling a person who is married to the vice President a hero while leaving Mayi Chibambo aside. If you can not contribute, it is still fine and no one will force you to. THE MORE YOU THINK YOU ARE EDUCATED THE MORE YOU REALISE THAT YOU KNOW LESS. So disappointing.
Well said BBC I totally agree very disappointing indeed!
This was a good story but the writer has spoiled it by adding his unfortunate views about the state giving upkeep to retired politicians. instead of commenting on Chibambo and her illness, people are now focusing on this useless debate, created by the writer. Anyway I’m sure a person of her status should have saved and planned for a rainy day. If such people can’t plan for their own lives, should we really be entrusting them to run government affairs? Should we really be putting the future of our nation in the hands of people who have no plan nor vision for tomorrow? People like Dausi and Chakuamba? Very dull people who just live for today and have no plan for tomorrow? Hail NO!!
Point of correction: She was not the first female cabinet minister. She was the first female deputy or junior minister. Malawi’s first cabinet minister is Kadammanja. She lives in Area 47 and old now. Her being on the banknote was for easy political score by the powers that were. Don’t re-write history and mislead the nation of the already lazy readers.
palankhulidwa apa shiii no comment
Bwanas and Donas here is my proposal. Our politicians and Parliamentarians r all thieves. My proposal is that anyone who is entitled to duty free status should pay their own bills fot hospital and funerals!!! Its unfair for them to enjoy duty free status yet when they r sick they pay their bills using poor people taxes, its INSANE.
Pepple are suffering in the villages….people lack basic services from their government because of lack of funds. It is foolishnes to add some more responsibilities on government to take care of retired politicians…
mmayesa mukuti ankagwira nthito kalero? ndiye ndalama ankalipidwazo amangomwera kachasu? mukakhala pantchito muziziwa kuti muzakalamba!!!
Get well soon. But we can’t pay for her bills. Malawi is bankrupt as she is herself.
In the Malawian society there are no old people’s homes. This means relatives take care of their own. If this lady is destitute, the ministry of gender would help. But in a society like ours, the govt cannot afford to support all former politicians that are struggling. I even look at the current ministers and ask what makes them special or what are they doing that in future govt pays for their bills and not mine yet am burdened with lots of tax as a citizen.
What is the logical framework of this Mhango taking us to? She is her grandmother and Juliet Mhango should foot the bills. There is no logic that because she is on Banknote then she must have banknotes for free. What was the retirement plan of ur privileged grandmother? Why should we, not so privileged poor Malawians foot her bills? Why should she chose a hospital where only privileged few Malawians go if u had no Rose Chiwambo printed bank notes? Why should we pay for recognizing her?
I am sorry to say this but truth should be told,by the time she was serving as a cabinet Minister I think she was getting her full package and all the benefits allocated to Ministers then. whatever monetary problem she’s facing today its out of her own making because she did not think of the future.
Its really absurd to blame the government, people can help just like the way we help anyone else who is in need\
So these guys got no pay when they were working? Never served a penny? Never had businesses? Okay.
Malawians…you are always proud being given things for free. No wonder some malawians are ready to accept values and ideals that conflict with their beliefs. Even if the donors said malawians should start eating feaces and drinking urine as a condition for aid…weird as it may sound, but just because there is money attached to it.. others will say “tiyeni tidye ndife osauka” the issue of mrs chibambo is a sad one, and after working in top government positions, which entitled to benefits and salaries, which some of us can only dream of she comes back for more. There are people who have equally contributed to the development and success of this country in other sectors, for example medical doctors, lectures. Should we say those should be on government payroll even after retirement ? My arguement is that this people should fend for themselves because just because they served as ministers they are not any better than the doctors, teachers, lawyers who served government.
Just to let everybody know her immediate family was never consultated about this. They are extremely upset at whoever purported this.
Analyst # 8, I have always liked your comments, this in particular
Thanks Naliyela . . .
Am humbled . . .
She was very beautiful when she was young… I always like her portrait on the bank note
My parent are old and retired I am looking after them as well as saving money to look after them in future incasethey will need special care politicians should learn to save money not to look for sympathy when they are old and have chopped all their money anyhow she has kids as well as grandchildren they should look after her and contribute to her medical bills RUBBISH

Old Ksmuzu Banda team are the the champions and makers of Malawi. Pity they have to suffer in the country they laid the foundation . Under Ksmuzu banda they didn’t rob the treasury dept. they worked to build Malawi. Help them, Oh Malawians look upon them with kindness.
Asa!
Kamuzu was crook number 1! Ever! in Malawi.
Know your history, man.
I was physically and emotionally perturbed to learn of Rose Chibambo’s predicament. It is sad that the present government of Peter Muthalika has turned a blind eye on the lady who gallantly fought for the independence of our country when she even gave birth to her child in the colonial prison.Muthalika and his boot lickers must comprehend that without Rose’s fearless stance to fight colonialism head on,he would’nt have been the President of Malawi today.Just to quote Bingu’s eulogy at Kanyama’s burial site in Lilongwe, this is what he said,”Iam standing here to day to say goodbye to Kanyama Chiume because I fervently believe that without his tenacity and sense of steadfastness,I could not stand here today as your President”. Therefore,Peter and the likes, must not forget that, you can destroy an effigy but you can not erase history.Iam pretty sure that if Rose were a Southerner or a Central Malawian, something could have been done to her forthwith. Now I can see that Peter joined Chipembere’s Party in exile because he new well that he could not fight Chip or any other ex Minister on a political competition so when he and his brother Bingu saw that all former ex Ministers had succumbed to unbeatable demise and when they both gauged the political climate inside the country, they made a move and it worked well for both of these opportunists.Malawians of goodwill, let us all help our hero to go through this treacherous journey.Myself and members of my family and some of Malawians in diaspora wish her prompt recovery and God of Abraham put his hand on her head for a complete recovery,Amen!!!
Chiwambo needs to be cared for buy current regime. She is a malawian prop plz the kaliati kabwila and nation do something to this great doughter !!!
Give account number please
Mtumbuka, the countries you are comparing Malawi with, started mining long time ago. In Zambia especially, mining started in the 1930s and Zambia was the first country in central Africa to start television broadcasting, talk of soon after 1950.This is why Zambia is one of the most urbanized countries in Africa, more than fifty percent of the population is concentrated in cities and towns compare that to Malawi which has ninety percent people in rural areas.
The only reasonable argument you can give is that Malawian leaders should have done better. A president has to look at the potential areas of growth for his country and concentrate on those areas. In this case, Malawi would be better off if more emphasis was put on industries in agriculture and if tourism was heavily developed putting Malawi at the level of Kenya or Tanzania. There is a huge potential in tourism but it remains underdeveloped.Yes Malawi has been poor for a long time due to lack of a mining industry, but its poverty has mostly been self-made by our presidents due to lack of progressive policies for development.
This absolutely rubbish. When did she ask the government to pay her medical or any other bills? How many times has she been in hospital and who has paid? Why ask the government now? The person who sent the story to Nyasatimes – yes, she might be the granddaughter – but just ask her when did she last visited her.
Please, take the story down – she is not asking for help from anywhere – the family will take care of her bills. Thank you, Chibambo family.
Indeed it is pathetic, but also we have to understand that during that time, Dr Banda had the grip on everything through John Tembo, meaning to say no cabinet minister outside Dr Banda’s inner circle had the opportunity to get substantial loans to start businesses or own property. This was the time when the forfeiture act was in force.Mrs Chibambo is not the only one, Robson Chirwa is another good example, and the list goes on.But people like John Tembo or Louis Chomango still have the luxury to live big these days due to their closeness to Kamuzu.
It is only in Malawi and maybe other underdeveloped countries where someone can be used on bank notes without being rewarded handsomely. Mrs Rose Chibambo deserved to be paid for using her face and name. It’s like a patent of a product another company wants to use to sell its products because of that patent’s recognition on the market. The owner of the patent deserves to get a substantial percentage of profit after sales. The fact is you don’t just use somebody for free. Nike, Reebok, and other big companies, promote their products by using and paying well known celebrities in sports or entertainment as a token of appreciation.
The question is, did government seek her consent to use her name on Bank notes? Is she being used just to recognize her historical importance? Either way, she deserves a good place in the elite society, not enduring the hardships of poverty; she has to be honored in a special way(financially) especially after using her name.
Sorry for your illness mama but when you were in power you should have made laws that uplift everybody and set up strong institutions which guarantee a good livelihood for all Malawians including those in retirement. Unfortunately for most political leaders in Malawi they only care about instantaneous filling up of the tummy without thinking about tomorrow. Sorry but I do not support this idea that the ruling elite (who have time and again ruled with impunity) get special favours zinthu zikawathina
Every one should plan and prepare well for their retirement. Why should tax payers be forced to give up keep to retired politicians? Why? These guys enjoy alot when in politics and they don’t invest or plan retirement. Ine ndiye nfikazavutika azandithandiza nda? Makawians lets learn to start preparing for retirement in 20s not at 60 what can you do at 60? Shocking.

People should also know there will be rainy days. Ex ministers shouldn’t be destitute after all they earn more than most people should understand financial management more than most people. Am i missing something here?
Malawi amene ndimamuziwa ndiye ameneyu…..am not surprised
Am so sorry for her condition and wish her a quick recovery. but whatever political position she was given she was duly paid and and probably managed to send kids to good schools which a tobacco farmer who contributed to her salary did not manage. i dont think state should continue to milk our farmers in paying medical bills for the very we paid when working on fatty GOVNMT positions. Check the facts and you are going to establish that Chiwambo is NOT EVEN THE FIRST WOMAN TO SERVE AS MINISTER. GO CHECK IT MUST BE IT MUST BE FENIA SADYALUNDA. GO NOW AND NEVER AGAIN CHEET US. get well soon.

Please authorities think like normal human beings. You can have Lake Malawi in front of our currency and reserve bank building or parliament building at the back. Not this madness where you put first female minister, later on you will put Joyce Banda as first female president, then after Hilary Clinton becomes president you will put aunt Tionge for gay rights?????????????????????????????????
I can not even take a Tambala to help this one. Kamuzu Chibambo matama onse aja koma Mayi ako kumavutika choncho? Chitsilu cha munthu.
Transfer her to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. We have been having ministers who has got alot of money being admitted at Kamuzu central hospital. She is on money of course but the money is not hers. These politicians should learn to invest, amzawo ali ndi ma plot, ma farms, iwo amangodya money from their account basi.
Kodi kunjako munalibe pension? Kodi kukhala nkhope yako pa ndalama ndiye chikhale chifukwa? There was another one called Chimwemwe Hara whose signature stuck on the bank notes long after he was fired by Kamuzu. He was nearly walking barefooted that’s in slippers shoes which is a sign if poverty on Malawi standard then. It was happening whilst his signature was on the bank notes.
After all how many people died miserably yet they fought hard for freedom of this country equally or more than this lady?
Let us not set bad precedencies. Retired politicians had other careers apart from politics. They should also have invested in their children and other relations.Where are the children for Rose Chibambo in this case?
The guardian is up to something. Rose stays in mzuzu at kaning’ina surbab. And drivees a car I dont think she is a destitute
This tells a story of lack of foresight. Most of us live a day at a time. We don’t plan for our future even when we have the means such as the case when for instance Gwanda Chakwamba was swimming in luxury and money. We should not feel sorry for those who wasted their fortune. Chuma ndi mchira wakhoswe sucheswa kupululuka.
No offence but why not just to a public hospital for free?
Actually the Doctor’s at Mwaiwathu are off duty doctors from public hospitals e.g Q.E.C.H
U forget these people enjoyed and were priviledged. Others were poor. Why there is not system of pension as it was in colonial. Mycket father had served in Zambia and had pension he was geting eventuellt when he moved tog Malawi. Unfoetunately Chiluwa destroyed Zambia economy like Muluzi did tog Malawi. Africa has NO pension system tog secure workers after job. This is Why there is Cash Gate. Sa after service for your nation and paying tax u de poor. President get very worthy. I am luck I served in Europe I have my pension untill I die.
Dont politisize. How come she is at mwaiwathu and not at queens
munthu ali ndi ana, ena maloya. Whats wrong with us Malawians that we always want to live on charity? The family can pay for her.
Malawi should honour heroes, statespersons, and patriots while they are still living. It will be frivolous and, insensitive to pile a lot of flowers on their graves.Rose is one of the people who qaulifies in the said categories.

We are at 52 years of independent, but i doesnt look like we are independent.we will never had a good government at all.The politicians are to be blame they always skip from party to party with an aim of eating the money alone with their families, those people who hold upper postion in the administration do not care about Malawians, but they have forgetten one thing that the power and authority is in the hands of the people,Malawians. May God bless Malawi.
This is Total rubbish??who told them being on a bank note u will also hav Money??where is Ziliro Chibambo?,Kamuzu Chibambo?Mzamose??
There are thousands of Malawians who also contributed by paying taxes languishing in public hospitals. Why should you take somebody to Mwaiwathu when you know you have no money. As a minister, it was not a charitable job; they got paid for it and enjoyed massive ministerial benefits. Like any other citizen they are supposed to start saving or to join the pension schemes. Let us learn to prepare for our future.
Well said Mtumbuka and Mr Analyst. Politicians have done more damage to the country than good. They don’t deserve the respect and attention that continually ask for
This is sad news. However, it is my understanding that some (if not) all politicians or other victims of MCP/Kamuzu regime were compesated. So the question of honoring them again with financial package should not arise.
All politicians shud be encouraged to take a medical insurance. As for Mai Chibambo, why not cend her to KCH or Queens (paying ward) where she can receive the best medical services in a govt hospital. We shud not encourage using public funds in private for few “previelaged” individuals. Is it not the politicians who have messed up all public services?
Relatives to Rose Chibambo please don’t take advantage of her sickness as a fundraising. At least if u had taken her to Queens Central Hospital we wld hv understand that u don’t hv money to settle her bills. The fact that u took her to Mwaiwathu proves that u hv money but u r just too stingy to release money for ur relatives
Amanyang’wa mapoliticians akakhala pa mipando, let them be taught how to invest. We are in present bad economic situations coz of this breed of animals, they squander our money alot when in power. Paying for her hospital fees will set a bad precedent. Kodi alibe ana? Anapita bwanji ku Mwaiwathu? Malawians, lets be careful with our taxes as far as politicians are concerned.
That is a common disease to all African communities. But my request to the current leaders of all societies, please let’s consider of investing.
Firstly, I would like to extend my best wishes for our 1st Woman Cabinet Minister to get well soon for this is the time She needs our prayers, material and financial support than ever….
But I stand to be corrected here if being a former cabinet warrants someone to get finances from the government coffers and yet she was being paid for the services given to the nation.
And again, having listened to her Juliet Mhango’s outburst, I don’t think it was a humble request but rather shouting to the to be well wishers that include the government to help with is unmalawian or one would classify it as lack of good manners….
Is the Chibambo clan not aware of the protocals of how to present their grievances to the government or any would be well wishers?
It is high time that the Chibambo family accept the reality on the ground that our Dear Mother Chibambo did not plan well for her retirement hence the current financial problems.
Remember, complaining of high bills at Mwaiwathu while we have free Mzuzu Central Hospital where is coming from, Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe and Queen in Blantyre which a a mile stone from the private hospital where she’s complaining of high bills does not make sense to me for everyone who doesn’t have money goes to our free hospitals.
I wish I was coming from the Chibambo family so that I could shut up the mouth of our Sister Juliet Mhango and take up the responsibility of appealing to the well wishers including those in authority in a polite manner and secretly so that they could understand our problem at hand and feel our pain mainly in this trying moment when our Dear Mama Rose is in the hospital and needs financial support than to go to the media and tell the nation that and I quote, ” My mother who is the Hero and is on you put her on k200 and yet she doesn’t have money and she’s responsible for her own bills”…. Is this a request nor an outburst?
She is sick and whom did you expect to be responsible for her sickness????
Being on k200 note is an honour on its own and expecting the government to be responsible for her bills is demanding too much but a humble request and a silent one would have helped and keep the family integrity.
A FREE ADVICE TO ALL IN GOVERNMENT:
Learn to serve and manage your finances well so that when you are not in those positions you should not become beggars or get mad in the people because of own family financial challenges like what is happening today.
A MALAWI ,akubanja la Chiwambo ndiwosayamika. Kodi kumuika munthu pandalama chikhale chifukwa chonyozela boma? . Zamatenda ndi udindo wa akubanja.Kubanja la Chiwambo kulibe wothandiza?. judicial chithandizo umapempha molamula? Akubanja asaiwale kuti mayo uyu analysis chigawenga. anatithawa Wife a MALAWI mumo.
Such kind of people had all the liberty to send their children to good schools abroad where they could have attained world class education who by now should have taken up the burden of paying the hospital bills. The Chibambos are many, Kamuzu Chibambo is here, Odoi Chiwambo is i South Africa and Odoi daughter is a wife to the VP why can’t they contribute towards the hospital bill? They want Malawians who are squeezed financially to be more squeezed. Is it an obligation that when one was a politician let alone a Cabinet Minister, ordinary Malawians should be jumping around to try to serve their lives when we are struggling to serve our own lives? What were they doing with their money the time they were sitting pamipando yonona? This is utter nonsense because it is purely family business and Nyasa Times don’t ever try to write stories of this nature to influence the minds of Malawians to go deeper into their pockets to serve people that chose to be poor when they had all the opportunities to remain well to do. Joyce Banda must help her because she is the one who has insulted this woman more than anybody in Malawi. She used her on the money to gain political mileage yet she knew she didn’t deserve to be on the money. Joyce Banda must know that if she did it so theta future politicians should do like wise with her, it will never happen with cash gate hovering around. Malawians will remember Joyce Banda for cash gate , and nothing better otherwise there would be no need to talk about her in the years to come. Mbala yaikazi, wapereketsanzio nyanja kwa mataifa aku Tanzania.
Medicines have become too expensive and healthcare is too expensive this is due to massive kwacha devaluation. Our savings in kwacha have completely been eroded by this last 6 months. I expected a stable currency from DPP government that is why I voted for them but it seems it is the biggest mistake I did with uncontrollable inflation my salary purchasing power is only half since they took power
How can someone without money dare to go to Mwaiwathu Private Hospital? I would understand if she was admitted to a oublic hospital, osati mwaiwathu. Sometimes I think relatives of these anthu otchuka just want to take advantage of their kitchuka.
This is the more reason why it is recommended to put faces of fallen/deceased persons on the banknotes or coins! This argument that she is poor yet her face is on a K200 banknote is very very shameful!
Very sad but a lesson to others. Please invest for the future. There are other people who were poor during her period but they are rich now. Komanso paja nthawi ya Kamuzu kunali nkhanza mwina anachitira nkhanza anthu ena ndiye pano ndi Pay back time.
I am always shocked when people tell Malawians that the should feed politicians for as long as they are alive.
It is the responsibility of everyone to make hey while the sunshines, in fact it a natural law.
it is not only politicians who have contributed to this country, we have Nurses, Doctor, Teachers, Soldiers, etc.
So what makes politicians so special to eat Tax Payers Money for the whole of their life?
Ordinary Malawians pay taxes while these so called Politicians go tax free while getting Fat Salaries, today they introduced Pension for life for ordinary Malawians, in the name of enhancing a saving culture, while they don’t contribute to the same, yet it is them who do not have a saving culture,
Please she might not have money, but she educated her children and relatives, let those people take care of her now, in addition government does not own individuals.
Lastly, Malawi has never been to war, yet it is the poorest country in the world, and you are telling me that our Politicians contributed to this country? Go pa Mozambique, Go pa Zambia (Now promoted to middle economy) Go pa Tanzania, we cant compare with Malawi…… now you are telling me that politicians contributed a lot to this country?
Then why are we the poorest country in the Whole world if our politicians did their Job?
Don’t waste our money, we have Nurses, Teachers who have tirelessly worked rural areas where salary could reach them 5 months later, but they never quit these are the real heroes……. and now we have Graduate Politicians from their dedication who don’t care or look back to improve the lives of these people….. Save your stolen money or you beg in the streets……
Get well soon mama Chibambo….. GOD BLESS MALAWI
EVERYBODY contributes in one way or another no exception……think of our primary school teachers, professors , medical doctors etc……….if they get broke? so what?
let those who want to assist do so on their own volition, ministers should not be a liability to Malawi,,,but Malawians can of course assist…
Rose chiwambo ndiye kuti chani? Kuzolowera kuchita survive on Govt money basi atumbuka. Why did she go to Mwaiwathu instead of QECH if she knew she is as broke as a church mouse? Zamkutu basi!

If she has no money, then why go or take her to Mwaiwathu, in the first place?; when it is written even in our bedroom walls for us to see even when excited, that Mwaiwathu is relatively expensive even for the same medical care, vis-a’-vis, other reputable hospitals in Malawi?
We people need to accept the reality and live it when time changes. Lets live in our pocket and life will be fair to us. We need to know that . . .

We all know that no matter how much money you have at a point in time, if the only mathematics you master is of subtraction; money speaks, and ‘goodbye’ it says. Without delays, for that matter. Thus, it is important to learn other mathematical skills also; precisely, of addition; by, inter alia, making investments while energy and opportunity, we still have.
. . . Buy treasury bills and eat the interest. Build houses and eat the rentals e.t.c. Making investments also means investing in our children (educating them to some sensible level or teaching them entrepreneurial skills).
Otherwise, you are wise if you are born poor and die rich and unwise, viceversa. And if truth be told akuluakulu, kupempha or kungongola, kumachititsa manyazi.

While sympathizing with her deteriorating health condition, others may be buffled why her two daughters in the US, one of them a practicing dentist in the heart of New York, and her grand Son doing business in Lilongwe cannot look after their mother at this critical time when she needs them most. They need her as much too!
Wishing her complete recovery soonest!
Malawi is indeed one of the worst countries to ageing. Another daunting question though is, why do people fail to save sufficiently for their retirement
It’s a common knowledge that, a man evolves around three various phases
The first one is the childhood phase where one is financially dependant on parents, the second one is an adulthood, and one is financially active
This is a very critical phase as the final stage of old age depends on choices one makes at the second phase
It never ceases to amaze me that a substantial number of people fail to make wise choices that would afford them a comfortable retirement
why should politicians be given preferential treatment when it comes to help in times like these?
Every Malawian has and is playing a big role to this country by paying taxes of all forms. There are some who are paying millions every month and employing many people in the process, their contribution is equally to somebody who fought for this country at any given period, should they ask for some assistance from government when they become broke?
We can’t entertain such extravagance by all means. Serving a country is everyone’s noble duty which we should not expect to be refunded.
Being printed on money is equally a great honor, period.
Let those who chose to her pic to put on the bank not bankrolls her. How can the bank not profile pic have no money
This is very sad. Can we guys from Mzimba help our grand mother so that we do not feel embarassed? This is a wake up call for politicians. They must not eat money like tomato without investing. Please learn a lesson from Chikuwamba and this woman.
Yes, you do that. Go ahead.
But I do not see why you should feel embarrassed just because you come from the same district or region. Wakwithu syndrome?
There will be a solution to that.
