Silver appoint Nundwe caretaker coach

Silver Strikers have given vetran defender Itaye Nundwe  the role of caretaker coach, following the suspension of their technical panel earlier this week, after poor results.

Nundwe will be assisted  by Hellings Mwakasungula  for the foreseeable future although the two will continue as players.

The club confirmed that the two players will take over  the coach duties on an interim basis.

The central bankers suspended coach Dan Dzinkambani, his assistants Meke Mwase and Francis Songo including team manager Mike Chirwa to pave way for investigations on the team’s dismal performance in both the Standard bank knockout trophy and TNM Super League.

Silver lost 2 – 1 to rivals Civo United last Saturday in the first leg of the Standard bank trophy before going down 2 – 0 to Blue Eagles on Sunday in the league.

Itaye: Take temporary charge

The team’s chairperson Macdonald Mafuta Mwale told reporters that the technical panel has not been fired as earlier thought but suspended to find out why the team is performing badly despite boasting of quality players and at least some resources.

Dzinkambani confirmed to Nyasa Times that he has indeed been suspended alongsidde his techniacal team but refused to comment further.

“Indeed I have been suspended with my backroom staff but I will not give further comment,” he said.

But reports reaching Nyasa Times indicate that their house is not inorder with divisions in all commitees including the executive.

“Even the executive is divided because some feel the chairman is running things single handedly and others have even threatened to resign or be fired,” a source said.

The source says something has to be done urgently before things get worse at the club.

The central bankers are on the third position on the TNM league log table with 29 points from 19 games. They have won 9,lost 7 and drawn thrice.

The veteran players’ first assignment will be a date with destiny in the second leg tie of the Standard bank trophy against rivals Civo who lead 2 – 1 from the first leg.
