Silver board recommends GS dismissal for fraud allegations
Silver Strikers trustees’ board has recommended the dismissal of General Secretary Mike Tembo on charges of financial fraud.
In a verdict released after the disciplinary committee led by legal adviser Trouble Kalua, Tembo was found guilty of failing to remit in total from gate collections.
“On the material before the panel the sum of K116,000 from K800,000 representing proceeds of the gate collection from the match between the cub the Wanderers was not dully accounted for, so too was the sum of K68,000 from K400,000 representing proceeds from of the collection against Tigers,” reads in part.
“Some of the expenditures recorded appear to have been exaggerated and some not supported by evidence. To this vantage the panel recommends to the committee to either suspend the general secretary for a year since he is first offender or to outright dismiss him from his position because the charge involve breach of trust and confidence.”
The panel also found Tembo guilty of abuse of his position in relation to the handling of K400,000 as part of the proceeds during the game between Silver and Wanderers.
However, the panel found Tembo not guilty of negligence in clearing Dam Msimuko and Peter Mwenda to Civo Service United.
Tembo was also not guilty of late clearance of Timothy Chitedze as alleged.
The jury also cleared Vice General Secretary Madalitso Mazombwe who was also suspended alongside Tembo to pave the way for investigation into the matter.
