Silver, Civo clash to curtain raise FAMA Cup finale

TNM Super League Champions, Silver Strikers and their capital city rivals Civo United will curtain raise this year’s Fellowship Association of Malawi (Fama) finals between Big Bullets and Blue Eagles at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

According to Fama’s chairman Jaffet Majekete, they have lined up a number of activities to take place before the actual final, citing an example of the Lilongwe derby.

“We have organized a number of activities to take place before the finals. Silver Strikers will play Civo United as a curtain raised match,” said Majekete.

Majekete also revealed that they have hiked the gate charges in the open stand for the encounter from K100, 00 to K200.00.

Meanwhile, Bullets chairman Malinda Chinyama stressed that the Peoples team will invade Lilongwe on a serious mission.

“We are going to Lilongwe to grab the cup not on holiday. My plea to all Big Bullets fans in Lilongwe and central region is to come at Civo Stadium in large numbers to witness us being crowned as champions,” said Chinyama.

Chinyama also urged Big Bullets supporters from Blantyre to escort the team to Lilongwe at a fee of K3, 000 return fare.

The Ndirande Township based out-fit coach Eding’ton Ng’onamo will bank all his hopes on their young and upcoming slippery striker Gabadin Mhango to lead the frontline.

Mhango has been instrumental in his team’s victory in the Fama cup having helped it to progress through to the finals.

He was responsible for Red Lions exit in the semi-finals of the cup having scored the winning goal to separate the two teams with a 2-1 margin.

Other players to watch for the commercial city side are Henry ‘Magetsi’ Kabichi, Chiku ‘Jet- Li’ Kanyenda, Jelesi Lufeyo and Douglas ‘Section 65’ Chirambo.

However, resurgent Bullets are aware that the Cops from Area 30 are currently holders of the Standard Bank.

Blue Eagles mentor Declerk Nsakakuwona has also vowed to take Bullets head on.

“We have a mission to accomplish on Saturday against Bullets. We cannot afford to lose in front of our home fans and Bullets should expect a tough ride,” said Nsakakuwona.

Nsakakuwona has enough arsenal to upset the Blantyre based team in the likes of their dangerous raider Dave Banda, Kenneth Mponda and Peter ‘Shoes ‘ Mgangira who is the main engine room for the blues.
