Silver close-in on leader KB: Malawi TNM Super League
Silver Strikers FC on Sunday, October 6, 2013 stepped up their campaign to defend the TNM Super League title when they slaughtered Red Lions 3-0 in a league match played before a sizeable crowd at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe’s Area 47.
The win saw the Central Bankers closing in on league leaders Kamuzu Barracks with 28 points from 17 games, only two short of the soldiers’ standing.
The two giants played a goal-less first half before defender Davie Moya broke the Lions’ resistance four minutes after restart.
The winger turned defender scored straight from a free kick before diminutive striker Green Harawa followed with the second midway into the half.

Substitute Chawanangwa Kaonga, who had replaced Rodrick Gonani in the dying moments made it 3-0 on the dot of full time.
Commenting on the victory, Silver’s head coach Stain Chirwa, who was joined on the bench by recalled assistant coach Itaye Nundwe said he told his boys to play their normal game during the pep-talk.
“We were rushing things in the first half and we told our boys to cool down and play our normal game, which they did. We are trying to blend young, old and new players while at the same time focusing on defending the championship and today’s win is a big morale booster,” said Chirwa.
Red Lions’ Mike Kumanga accepted defeat, saying his side did not play well: “This is not the performance we expected. We have been greatly affected by the sickness of some of our key players, who suffered from
diarrhea ahead of our two assignments in Lilongwe. We don’t know what happened but this has been a major setback for us,” he said.
