Silver settle for third spot: Malawi TNM Super League

Silver Strikers are surely finishing on third spot and they are currently with 58 points from 29 games and have final date against Civil Sporting while Kamuzu Barracks need to pull out their socks with the remaining two games.

Silver lost the sting on title push

They are seventh with 39 points from 28 games and they are facing Master Security on Sunday in Dedza. If they will not add points they will put themselves in danger of failing to make it to top eight as defending Chmapions.

The first 25 minutes there was nothing home to write about as both teams seems not open to create chances to get goals.

Three minutes later Silver Strikers goal poacher and leading scorer in the league, Mathews Sibale increased his goal tally to 14 when he volleyed  in an opener for his team beating Lehman Nthala from close range.

Kamuzu Barracks Central defender,  Sam Chivunde scored an own goal in the 36th minute when he failed to clear Green Harawa’s cross to make it 2-0 to Silver.

Silver rested injured right back,  Herbert Wayekha in the 42nd minute and they brought in Damiano Kunje.

Two minutes later, Silver substitute, Kunje put through Victor Limbani but his hard drive was brilliantly saved by Kamuzu Barracks goalie, Nthala.

Two minutes into added time Kamuzu Barracks striker, Kelvin Haganda pulled one back when he sent a grounder inside the box in which Silver keeper Brighton Munthali failed to stop.

The two team rested with the visitors on the driving seat.

Kamuzu Barracks replaced Chivunde for Peter Mselema at the start of second half and barely two minutes into play Diouf Simaone’s free kick was connected over by Haganda.

Silver’s Sibale dribbled past Mselema and Pempho Kansichiri in the 49th minute but failed to elude Nthala in one on one view and he blasted over.

Kamuzu Barracks brought  in fresh legs of Sam Chiponda and Komani Msiska for Mude Jeffrey and Zinjani Yona to enforce the attacking machinery in the 59th minute.

Silver’s Green Harawa twice wasted golden opportunities to burry the game but he lucked composer in the 82nd and 85th minute.

Kamuzu Barracks substitute, Msiska could have levelled the scores in the 87th minute when Harvey Mkacha had put him through but he shot wide from close range.

“We happy we have collected full points and we played the game with no pressure, ” Silver Strikers Team Manager,  Francis Songo said.

He said with the win nothing will change on the log table and we just aiming to win the last game.

Kamuzu Barracks coach,  Billy Phambala blamed his charges for let in quick simple goals in the first half.

He bemoaned the absence of some of his key players and saying a lot them are nursing injuries.
