Silver Strikers award outstanding players

Silver Strikers on Friday awarded the 2021 TNM Super League outstanding players in a bid to be motivate them ahead of the 2022 season kick off on February 26.

Silver Strikers communications officer David Daniel Dauda said the award was in recognition of the players’ contribution for the season they won one cup and twice finished runners-up in Airtel as well as TNM Super League.

They won the inaugural FDH Bank, but lost on penalties to, league champions Nyasa Big Bullets in the Airtel Top 8.

“The idea is to recognise talent so that this should create competition and in turn make them compete for places.”

However, Silver officials were not committed to disclose what the players received.

“This is an international and we cannot speak to the public what they received,” said an official.

However, goalkeeper Charles Thom continue to hog the limelight after his impressive performance at the Africa Cup of Nations after he was named Player of the Season.

Zebron Kalima was named most improved player, Chisomo Mpachika most disciplined, Nickson Mwale most consistent, top goal score Maxwell Phodo while Young Chimodzi Jnr received a special award as longest serving player.

In Reserve team, Geoffrey Maluwa was most improved, top goal scorer Levison Goban, while for their youth side Blessings Chandiyang’ana was most improved while Pius Saka was the top scorer.

In an interview, Thom said the award would inspire him to work hard rather.

“I know these awards would pile pressure on me, but that will not make me big-headed. I know the task that lies ahead of me,” he said.
